Audience theory

Audience Theory

Audience theory - An audience theory can have a different affect on other viewers, it has a different influence/affect upon the overall audience. Audiences from past to present are powerless to prevent the influence over them. The influence over them has a message that makes the viewers act upon it, this can be related to the 'Hypodermic Needle' - The messages in media texts such as film, video games and music videos act as a needle, it injects the messages and theory into the viewers.

Examples of the audience theory in film is the movie 'Child's play' -  during the movie various torture scenes are being shown to the audience, this has a negative affect towards the audience, the audience can then go out into the real world and replicate scenes from the film. This is related to the murder of James Bulger, he was tortured and murdered in a similar way to the film 'Child's play' thus having negative affect onto the audience.

Another example of the audience theory/Hypodermic Needle is in music videos, certain artists today can have both a negative and positive affect on the audience, one example of a negative affect is in the music video 'What it feels like for a girl' by Madonna. During the video it shows Madonna rampaging and causing destruction throughout a town, the negative affect of this is that other women may go out into the real world and replicate/copy what they had saw in the music video.

Facebook & Twitter Analysis

Facebook
Facebook is an important feature for any musician to have as its probably the easiest way besides Twitter to interact with fans, on facebook you can interact directly with fans, via updating photos, commenting on other peoples pages and updating statusess to show what you are doing at the exact times. Facebook is a great way of advertising your band as if you gain a couple of likes and people actually start to notice your band your fan population will spread and many more people will be able to take notice of who you are.

A good example of this is the Facebook page of The Script, they reguarly update their page with several photos, status updates and even reply to fans on comments. The Script have taken the idea of social interaction and ran with it like we would like to do, we would like to be able to create photos of the band and upload them directly onto Facebook where people could like and comment on the picture.

The colours used are limited as its facebooks own website but we will have our logo as the profile picture and include a header of our band members. The comments shown on the Scripts facebook page are very polite and are spelt with correct english to show that they are professionals, The Script have liked other bands Facebook pages to show what type of music they enjoy, this is also similar to advertising as a big band like The Script have basically told their fans to go and listen to this music and if you like it follow them and take an interest into their page and then do the same with the bands they also like.

The Script will have fans from hundreds of countries worldwide, this is because they have a huge fan base, the script will also have other official band pages with different languages to be able to interact with their fans from a different language other than English.

Twitter

Twitter review - Evanescence

Introduction
As part of our group planning we need to look at many other band sites, we will be looking at Twitter, Facebook and a website.

Purpose
Our main purpose is to have a clear objective to inform our audience, the purpose of a band twitter is to update on any news or information to fans. The information should also be aimed at the target audience and it should suit their style of writing and knowledge, we have looked at the 'Evanescence' twitter to relate to our own. One relation to our twitter is that one main colour is used, e.g evanescence uses mainly the colour purple with different variants. On our twitter we us the colour black which is also used on other things such as the text and images.

Design
The design on the Evanescence twitter in our opinion similar to our twitter, both twitter sites contain the same layout but they have different colours, styles and visual elements. The colours on both sites are suited towards the band and the style of music, Evanescence have dark and sometimes emotional songs - this is why their colours contain a light and dark variant. The purple starts off from being bright to dark in the corner (Shown below), The style of the Evanescence twitter is mainly suited towards their audience. We think this because it is also shown in their clothing, the lead singer wears clothing that has dark and bright elements (As shown below). On our band twitter we also have a certain style to follow, the background is dark and the twitter logo is black, both of these reflect the band members. One example is the song choice and the lyrics involved.

Content
Our band twitter is aimed at our audience, this is shown within our design and style. The design is basic and simple for the user to use, the users can easily go through the site to look at our tweets. This is shown in a picture below, in comparison our band twitter is a more simple and basic way of design compared to 'Evanescence'. The main content on the Evanescence site is to inform their fans of upcoming tours and releases, this is good because it keeps them up with information and doesn't distract/annoy them with irrelevant information. On our band twitter we include images and information about upcoming songs and releases, we also talk about information that is popular in the world at the time.

Filming in Everton Park

During Saturday myself and the group went to Everton park to film some key scenes in our music video, the reason we filmed in Everton Park was to make the video similar to some off the scenes from 30 Seconds to Mars' music video "City of Angels". The usage of the everton park skyline is key to the way we are trying to portray the band as as try to show that we are a humble group who remember their roots of home. The humble theme comes from the script who we are trying to be similar to as they are very humble and religious. Below are some images taken from filming they show myself and the cameraman (Scott)?filming certain scenes.

Vines!

https://vine.co/v/MMKjQ7rPtKO/embed
This a Vine to show other ways of Social Interaction with fans and the audience, many bands and celebrities use Vine as an easy way to show fans what they are doing although the videos are only a maximum of 7 seconds long. Vines are useful as they give a brief insight as to what the band are currently up to, fans feel a stronger connection and feel as if the artists are closer to them through this.Vines are very direct as they can instantly be streamed direct to fans, shared liked and even commented. Vines are also a great way of publicity as is other ways of social media as its basically free advertising as the app itself is free and people have more of a chance of seeing the video as social media is constantly around making it more available to people.

Poster> Album

Originally we were going to create a album cover plus the booklet for our album cover as this seemed the simplest and the most normal thing to do, mistake. After finding an album cover design that we as a group decided that we all liked we created the front page of the music video which turned out like the one above but shortly after creating this much to our disappointment as we thought it turned out great we realised that we would not be able to create this type of quality about 4 times as we also would have to include a back cover and a booklet but in terms of what to do next we think a poster will be much easier to do and we can dedicate all of our time onto one sole poster rather than many more hour creating more pieces for the album. The album cover was created using adobe photo-shop by Scott Jenkinson and includes a fade out image behind the logo and a skyline type image, similar to the one that will be used within the music video itself. After having a brief discussion with the group we came up with the following conclusion: " A poster will be much more easier, time efficient and will look better as we can apply more of our time solely on one creation.
We have decided to create a music album poster as a form of promotion, we have looked into what type of album poster we would like to create and we had a meeting with what we think it should contain and the conclusion we come up was that it should contain:
Logo
Album Name
Names of Band Members
Less colours
Simple Decoration
House Theme
We are going to create a simple poster that draws the attention to just one item such as a microphone of musical instrument, we are going with the saying that "less is more". However cringey that sounds its what we as a group want as we think it will look more professional.

We have discussed that we should be keeping within the black and white them, thus making it simple and effective. As you can see in The Frays poster, they incorporate the band members within the poster and we're thinking of doing the same technique but in a different contents.  This is just one of our ideas.

Other ideas from music videos

After watching 30 seconds to Mars' lyrical video "City of angels" I think it would be beneficial to our music video production to create a similar theme to the one in the picture below , thelis type of image in my opinion looks really good and seems very powerful in my opinion, this type or scene could also be used to take up some time from the main scenes by doing this it just means that we have plenty of scenes available so we will not have less scenes than what the actual song length needs. 30 seconds to mars uses a setting that makes the audience gaze upon it and wonder what it would be like to be there. It really appeals to the audience as they see these images as they want to be a part of the music video and be involved in it.

The image(s) located on the right are the images we would like to recreate not in the exact way as we would like to add more focus onto the skyline of liverpool. Doing this will fit into our album cover theme which also includes the skyline within it. We will keep the blog updated as to whether this whole concept will work or whether it may fail and not work well. We expect the biggest issue to be with lighting of the background as ideally we would like to film this at night/sunset but this is harder to arrange within a group as plans have to be made weeks ahead of schedule.

Work, Work and More Work

This blog post is just to show again how much research we are doing as a group, with jack looking at other videos that have been performed by other media A2 groups. Scott is shown editing the actual music video, this shows just how much work we are putting into the music video while also looking at other music videos which could possibly benefit our music video and make it better. The work we are putting in trying to look at other music videos is a lot, Jack Hughes has been searching through many youtube music videos in order to obtain more information of what we could include into our music video as we are struggling to come up with 30 seconds with of footage that can better the footage such as a time-lapse or a dramatic outlook onto a nice view such as a skyline.

Scott Jenkinson is editing the footage we have shot throughout various days and linking them together to make sure there is continuity, the footage we have done is slowly coming together in terms or overall needs, we just need to film for a couple more hours, find some scenes that we can create and then transfer them into the music video. The editing software we are using is Video Studios Pro, this is simple to use and scott who is in charge of editing has used this software before so we should be able to use this very well.

Joel has been scouting several places in link with what jack has been doing, so if jack suggests we should do a skyline Joel will look at some locations available to us, take pictures and show us to see if they are suitable for what we would like to do. Places such as Everton Park view and Liverpool docks have been scouted and deemed suitable for viewing.
