Work, Work and More Work

This blog post is just to show again how much research we are doing as a group, with jack looking at other videos that have been performed by other media A2 groups. Scott is shown editing the actual music video, this shows just how much work we are putting into the music video while also looking at other music videos which could possibly benefit our music video and make it better. The work we are putting in trying to look at other music videos is a lot, Jack Hughes has been searching through many youtube music videos in order to obtain more information of what we could include into our music video as we are struggling to come up with 30 seconds with of footage that can better the footage such as a time-lapse or a dramatic outlook onto a nice view such as a skyline.

Scott Jenkinson is editing the footage we have shot throughout various days and linking them together to make sure there is continuity, the footage we have done is slowly coming together in terms or overall needs, we just need to film for a couple more hours, find some scenes that we can create and then transfer them into the music video. The editing software we are using is Video Studios Pro, this is simple to use and scott who is in charge of editing has used this software before so we should be able to use this very well.

Joel has been scouting several places in link with what jack has been doing, so if jack suggests we should do a skyline Joel will look at some locations available to us, take pictures and show us to see if they are suitable for what we would like to do. Places such as Everton Park view and Liverpool docks have been scouted and deemed suitable for viewing.

Website

Our Webpage is now fully live on-line and available for all of our audiences to visit and interact with
 please visit our website at the following link;

http://chchsmediagroup4.wix.com/one-point-three

This is the webpage for our band One Point Three, this webpage was designed in similar fashion to that off the script with keeping the colour pattern the same on all the pages, many pictures of the band showing our enjoyment with music, upcoming interactions and also social media. The good thing about having a website it that links to the website can be shown in advertisements such as Youtube, Facebook or Twitter.

The image below is of our website, the colour scheme used is similar to our blogger website, the colour scheme used similar to the script in terms of the boxes that hold the information, but with the limited website creativity it was too hard to replicate it, the background was meant to symbol the road ahead for our band, kind of in a metaphor way.

The type of writing is jazzy as its the only type of writing that is similar to music, the comic book style of the images seem very heroic, the font writing is all linked together as they are either black or red this symbolises and connotes our house style.

The point of a website is to have a sole place which is the bands own identity where everything is created by them and for them. This is different to twitter and there is a limitation as to what you can create there, you cant make a background a certain size, alter text, add other pages with links for example. Having a website is the much more efficient road to travel down as we can now include photos of the band on the same site, as well as things such as important dates and interactions with fans.

The Script Website Review

The Script
This website is a short insight of what we've been analysing and reviewing in our research. This websites objectives is to grab attention to their fans, straight away we see the huge slide show in the middle of the page, showing us their recent concerts, photo shoots and general business. This is good because their fan base might want to know what they do outside of filming. The Scripts target audience is the age range about 13 to 25, a young age group for a band that sings about very sensitive issues but they;re music does not contain any bad language which shows which is one of the main reasons that bands have a different age group that they target. The script focus some of their songs about religion and life which is what the ultimate aim of our band aims to sing about, the pictures on the website show the band performing which shows how much they enjoy spreading the music which also relates to our band as we love music and we love signing to our fans.

The script also include messages and interactions from their fans such as what's shown on the right. The script also include Instagram within their website on the homepage which shows just how social media has become a massive form of interaction to spread the message to their audience.

The Script's website is a very high quality website with a lot of HD photos that make the website look very professional, the colour scheme used matches each webpage and even the images shown just like the way we try to incorporate into our website. In our website we plan to include a lot of photos as well as adding social media feeds such as Facebook and Twitter to show that the band care about interacting with their fans and audience.

We Present the Logo for One Point Three....

This logo is very simply and shows off that the band is humble and only care solely about the music hence the microphone. It includes our name so as that other people such as the audience know who we are as a microphone by itself will not be truly recognisable as a band. Other bands such as Guns and Roses use Guns and Roses to show who they are, this may sound too simple but that just shows how recognisable they are and that simple logos may sometimes work the best as they are one of the most well known bands in the world

Creative Talents Put to Work

This Post shows how we are all working together towards our project using our best creativity skills, we have done this as myself and Jack are not as skilled on a computer as Scott and also myself and Scott don't know as much about playing guitar as Jack. Giving each person in the group their own area to work within which they enjoy ensures that more will get done and more work that is off a high standard. Making sure everyone in the group is happy about what they're doing is essential for creating the best project and work possible.

Scott is shown here filming jack as he plays Guitar, this shows how Scott is working in his creative field for the whole benefit of the group which helps us out a lot, Scott is in charge of directing, setting and editing and has been excellent in all three during the time we have been working on this music video.

Jack is an excellent musician, every time he has a guitar in his hands it looks natural. Jack is a big fan of rock music which is often played on electric guitar this image here shows just how good he is as he focuses on the chords. Jack is responsible for performing in the music video and sorting out what we are going to wear as well as the props that are going to be included.

Joel is shown here performing in front of the camera in the setting, this image captures his acting abilities as it really looks as if he is putting his heart and soul into the performance which every audience member would like to see from their musical idols. Joel is responsible for what days we are filming on, which scenes we are going to be filming, who's going to be in the music video and making sure everyone in the group works together.

Filming day

These are the photos from our fourth day of filming these photos show our creative talents put to the best of use. with jack playing guitar which makes him look like a real musician and myself miming the words makes us look like professionals. Scott on the camera knows exactly what he is doing and this helps us a great deal as even with limited settings available he is still able to produce a great days worth of filming. This shows how we have come together as a team to produce a great days worth of filming and that we have come along way in terms of our progress from what we originally planned to do.

The Fray- Amateur music video

The following music video is of a Media GCSE standard, this music video uses the same music that we are going to do a music video for.

The music video setting is very amateurish as its set in a bed room of the girl in the music video with no effects used to make the music video dark or twisted as the subject used in the music video is a very sensitive issue that is of bullying. The use of the phone to show how the girl is being bullied is very good but the camera work is very shaky which shows that the person using the camera was inexperienced.
The acting shown is also very amateurish as she pauses in the middle of the bathroom for a awkward amount of time and then falls down randomly, the people who created this music video never questioned the activity and never tried to do everything with a purpose or a reason. The camera can also be seen one point with no attempt to try and change the scene or to cover it up, this shows an extreme amount of laziness.

The setting used for the second girl is typical average home, the lighting isn't very good as no effects have been used besides the normal camera settings. There is no performance in the music video which shows that they haven't thought more about the music video and looked at the actual music video for the fray. The edits and quick shots used are very good as it shows the settings used and it shows the girls story and where her path has taken her, it also shows the way bullying can affect some people so in that way the music video works well, but still overall you can see it was created by an amateur rather than someone with experience in camera work.

The editing is done well ad it quickly cuts fros one scene to another without any interruptions which is what we want to incorporate into our music video especially around the chorus but we are also looking at other types of cuts including transitions such as fading in and fading out.

Website Progress

our website is coming along great, alot of the editing of the website such as information about the band and link to other sites has been completed below are a few screenshots which show our progress on the website. All of the website has not been completed due to other stuff like more photos needed to be taken if we complete other aspects like this the website will be completed quicker and therefore we can constantly improve it.

This shows the front page first half of the website with the bands name clearly visible and an indie type background shown with the grey colours used to make the black and red colours stand out, no picture of the band is shown yet as we need to create one.

This image shows the second half of the front page which shows upcoming events from the band, music from other artists and eventually a slide show of images once they have been created.

This image shows the way we use social media in our website, Twitter buttons, Facebook buttons and also links to our other band "friends" this looks good as it shows we are professional and a well known band

Record label

 Record label
The fray is associated with 'Epic Records', Epic is owned by Sony Music Entertainment. At first epic was with jazz records but it has since expanded into various genres. Such as 'The Fray'.

I had also looked at many other music labels that have some relevance to our band and 'The Fray'.
Each record label below has their own unique artists that associate with them. For example Universal music group works with 'Eminem' and 'Lady Gaga'. Warner music group also works with 'Eagles', 'Green day' and 'Gorillaz'. And lastly Sony music works with 'AC/DC' 'Daft Punk' and 'Pink Floyd'. In our opinion we have decided that Sony music is the most popular among the artists and holds the greatest bands out at the time, The fray also associate with Sony music. The main reason why we have chosen Sony Music is because our song by 'The fray' works with Sony.

Reasons!
Another reason why we had chosen sony music is because of their artists, their artists are widely known across the world and have similarities to our band. An example of this is found in the genre, style of the song and the lyrics. Pink Floyd have emotional songs that are well known by their lyrics and use of lyrics. This is once gain relevant to our song choice - 'How to save a life'.

The reason why we didn't choose either Universal or Warner is because their artists, the artists are from different genres, different style of music and lyrics. Overall Sony music is our obvious choice because of their artists and our band choice is also working with sony.

Below are examples of the music that is used throughout the three record labels.

To be Completed...

The following will be completed by each member of the group by the end of the week:

Scott: Photos from the Photo-shoot (Behind Scenes).
Album Cover.
Logo.
Doing this is vital to our overall coursework as every band needs their own logo for their fans to be able to recognise the bands creativity and creations. The album cover is pinnacle as a terrible album cover could mean it looking very amateur-ish with a good quality design of the album cover  it shows how we use our skills and put them to the best use.

Jack: Looking at different record labels and finding out which one is most suitable for our band to be associated with.
Doing this will again show what type of music band we are, whether we want to be a big high profile band making lots of records or being humble towards our background by signing with a local or independent record company.

Joel: Comparing a music video of A2 level standard.
Screenshots of home made time lapse.
Doing this will show how we have done our research on other media students and that we know the standard of work that is needed to get the best grade possible the more research we do the more knowledge we have of what standard of work we need to create. The use of the screenshots will mean that we can show what we have done in our own time and what we are able to create with basic tools available to us. By showing the screenshots evidence of our time and effort into this music video project will be more visible to those who are watching.

What We've Discusssed

We have discussed that out music video is going to be set more on the narritive and what happens within the music video, also relating and making it undertanding to the music video. Our song isn't very upbeat so fast cuts and how fast the edits are really effect how the audience or viewers relat themselves to our video.

The song Give Me Love be Ed Sheeran is relevant to our music video because it has a set narritives, and has a firm structure to the piece. We had the idea that the male and female actores have some sort of argument and the girl ends up alone but the male keeps thinging of her through memories and point of veiw shots. However the video ends in a tragic way thus using both audiences perspectives on the song, using the elements love and death in the song.

Cd

For another physical piece of our media production we are going to be creating a Cd, along with its casing. Our CD will include images of the band together, the pictures that are going to be around the CD have not been decided yet by our group, our main aim is to create a realistic looking CD album design that shows off what type of band we are and that would actually be considered to be displayed at a major media shop such as HMV. We would all have to have another photoshoot in order to find a photo that is able to be used and shows the audience who we are. We were thinking about incorporating a cat into the album design as this would symbolise the albums possible name of "Sad, sex and the cat".

The main things that needs to be shown in the album is, a picture of the band, song names, and something that shows who we are as a band. We need to show we are a humble band that does not hog the limelight or think they are better than anyone else, our band represents a simple meaning about our band and that we are trying to give off a message to our audience through our song meanings.

Where we are at!

We've planned to edit some of our music video this week and look to finish the first draft of the music video within two weeks time, we will post photos from what we have done over the week and we will compare the photos to our original ideas to show how far we have come along from what we first imagined and planned the music video to be like.

Transitions

In the snow patrol chasing cars music video a scene which does not contain any performance and or relevance to the storyline. This is called a transition and doing something like this could really help us drag the music video on for longer and help the music video seem more professional rather than an average standard. Doing more transitions and edits incorporated into the music video will hopefully mean that the good effects used will help show the meaning of the music video more and make it seem more powerful. Other music videos have also used alot of transitions within the music video, the transition also works well with the music video as it fits in with pace and doesnt change the tempo or our audience expectation that anything exciting will occur. The transition works well as it gives the audience a aspectacle to watch rather than a blank screen where nothing is occuring that is worth paying attention to, the transition also matches the beat

The music video for the Fray- You Found Me, like many of their music videos and songs comes with a very powerful message and story line shown in the music video. This music video also used a couple of very well put together transitions which keep up interested as to what is going on the screen while it also drags out the music video so as that we are not left bored staring at a blank screen.

The First picture is a screenshot of a taxi driving with the lights and the big buildings behind it, this has no real relevance towards the music video but what it does provide to us as the audience is a spectacle that we think to ourselves "That Looks good!" like moths we are attracted to bright lights and this transition video is meant to wow us to show the amazing-ness of the lights and the buildings of where the music video is set. The second Image shows the next jump cut where the music video shows the buildings from high up where again we are attracted to this and think that it looks great.

The third image, is the first in a time lapse video where is shows the docks of a big city and how time passes so quickly, unlike many other transitional videos similar to this, this is actually in relevance to the music video in a way due to the message shown within the storyline and the lyrics. The music video is about a really sensitive and powerful issue, suicide and in the music video we see how a woman has killed herself or tried to kill herself by jumping off a tall building, the transition could be way of saying how quickly time can pass and that things such as life could be gone as quickly as the 12 hours could be gone within this music video the transitions used could come in useful with our music video as the storyline cannot be dragged on too long as there is a chance of it being over too quick and being left with time to spare but with a transitional video it takes up time and makes it look more well made and professional.

Risk assessment

Risk assessment
Risks
Risk - Bulb
Risk - Wires
Risk - Chairs
Risk - Guitars
Risk - Camera
Risk - Wet floor

Hazard
Hazard with bulb's, bulb's can smash on any surface and cause shards and pieces of glass to spread. This makes it dangerous for anyone that is close to it, sitting on the floor and is around glass. Bulb's can also burn anyone that touches it, either cuts from glass for burns from bulb's can hurt anyone.

Hazard with Wires is that anyone can trip over them which can cause damage to them while falling, one solution to this is to cover up wires, move them to the side, place them in out of reach places.

Hazard with Chairs, chairs can get in the way of performances and on the set, this means that people can trip over them or knock into them causing damage into themselves. One solution to this is to move them out of the way when not using them.

Hazard with guitars, guitars can smash and break causing damage to the user, pieces of the guitar can cause splinters to spread and fall off. One solution to this is to take care when using them and use common sense when using.

Hazard with Camera's, Camera's can break which means that glass and plastic can break off. This means that other people can trip and fall into the pieces cause cuts and bruises. One solution to this is to take care when using and use common sense.

Hazard with Wet floor, if there is a wet floor people can slip and cause cuts, bruises or breaks. One solution to this is to clean wet floors, stay away from them and to use common sense.

Precaution
Bulb - take care when handling, use common sense when using them.
Wire - Stay away from wires and move them away from busy areas.
Chair - Move chairs when not using, stay away from useless chairs.
Guitar - Don't use damage or broken guitar's, keep away from dangerous equipment
Camera - Only use safe equipment, if you don't know how to use then don't use it.
Wet floor - Clean wet floor, stay away from wet floor and use common sense.

Album Sleeve

This image is just one of the images we took whilst shooting the opening scene for our music video 'How To Save A LIfe'. As we see, the picture is set on a stage where some of the video is shot. The framing of the artist is in the centre, making him the focus point of the album sleeve The picture above will be used for the back of the album and will have the song which consists in the album besides Joel.  The picture shown is very simple which sums up what the band is about, we are not trying to create a band that looks fame hungry all the time and looking to do stupid things to get more famous we are trying to make a simple type band that people can relate to that people would call humble.

Merchandise

Merchandise
Here is an example of a 1.Three T-shirt, the shirt is red because it stands out from a crowd and is easily noticed. The text '1.Three' is near the centre of the shirt because it will get noticed. And lastly the microphone is the centrepiece of the shirt, it will get the person noticed when wearing it.

Here is black hoodie that represents our band, the logo and the text are white because it shows up on black, the reason why it is white is because we want it to get noticed from a distance and to represent the band. The reason why the colour black has been used for the hoodie is because it is relevant to our song and genre, dark, emotional and quiet.

We have created shorts for certain fans that have either a different sense of clothing or do sports often, the fans or band members can represent the band in what ever form they want. The colour white has been used to show the text and the image is because is shows up greatly on blue, and the colour blue has been used because it is a bright and noticable colour.

We have also created our own personalized shoes, the shoes also syleish and noticable have the band name on the front, this represents our fans and band overall.

Questionnaire Results

This the results to our questionnaire unfortunately there was a problem with the production of the questionnaire and the questions did not make sense, when you clicked on answer it took you back to the start. The questionnaire has now been fixed and the questionnaire is now full working and up to date.

The below results show that only one person has completed the questionnaire results show that 100% of people have seen the music video which shows from what we can gather from the results this connotes that the music video is very popular we can also understand that the music video is well received by the audience as 100% of people say that they would rate it as good and that they would rate it highly with 100% rating it as 4 stars out of a total of 5. Just as predicted when we had a private group meeting we all thought and predicted that many people would suggest that the music video is indie which shows that we should have and attempt to also replicate a style similar and in relation to the indie genre

Fashion

The reason we have chosen our certain fashion is in fitting with the post modernism theory  that nothing is original and everything has been done before. What are trying to do is replicate a band like the script such as their fashion and we are doing this as a homage style to The Script as we as a group respect the band and understand why they wear what they do. The Script tend to wear an item of leather such as a a leather jacket, the band tend to focus around what what the main band member Danny is wearing and whatever the band wear is related to the main member and the items of clothing all match up and link together.

The items of clothing we have chosen to wear will never be perfect and sometimes not ideal as we do not have a budget to work with we just have the clothes that we own, that we could share or borrow so for this, our fashion choices for the music video may contain clothes that are slightly too big, either way the clothes represent the band the script in a homage effect to them.

Other bands that we like the style of is One republic, they have a stylish representation towards them including smart shirts and jumpers but we are unable to replicate this as we all don't own this type of clothing and we don't have the funds available to us to be able to purchase and wear these clothes.

First day of shooting

During this week, we have been trying to find locations that were available to us during the time we are allowed to use for filming, when we found a place that was suitable we were able to shoot for one hour, we were able to film 30 seconds worth of footage which included one of our choruses, this was a success as we wernt sure whether what we were trying to produce would be able to be created, we played around with some of the lighting and camera shots to find out what worked and what would look good. Doing this meant we were able to see what things we could either improve during the planning and which things would not work

Prop list

What we will need

Video camera - The camera will be the main tool that will be used within our group, the camera will be used to record each piece of material for our group. The video material will be converted onto a Computer so that we can edit.

Gutair - The gutair will be used in the chorus of the song, the gutair will be one of many main points in the video. In the song it will provide the main section of the music and the rhythm of the music.

Chair - Chairs will be used in specific scenes, when a chair is being used it will be without the band. It will be used in the story section of the video.

Lights - Another major item for the props used will be lights, the lights will be used in the majority of scenes, the lights will focus on the band when they are singing the song. The light will make the audience focus on the people, the people  with the light on them are the main focus point for the video.

Clothing - In the music video that our group is going to wear selected clothing, the clothing will be relevant to the style of song and genre. It has to suit in with our choice and the others that are in the group.
